#001. The Real Reason Your Feel-Good Factor™ Has Gone Missing

Hi – it’s Rebecca.

Think you’ve lost your Feel-Good Factor™? Think again.

“Much of what you’re experiencing can be reclaimable”

If you’ve been feeling flatter lately, slower to recover, less energised than you used to be, it’s easy to assume it’s simply part of getting older.

I’m not so sure.

In fact, I think if you are an active sporty woman, you are blaming age for things that have very little to do with age at all.

The good news? Much of what you’re experiencing may be reclaimable.

Not through another diet. Not through another fitness challenge. And certainly not by training harder.

It starts by understanding what’s really going on.

When You’re Doing Everything Right… But Still Don’t Feel Right

You may be moving more than ever and still wondering why you don’t feel as good as you expected.

You might be walking, running, cycling, swimming or going to the gym several times each week. On paper, you’re doing all the right things. Yet your energy isn’t quite as reliable as it once was, recovery takes longer than it used to, and some days you simply don’t feel like yourself.

Not ill. Not injured. Just a little flatter than you remember.

It’s frustrating because you’re still putting in the effort.

The Old Message: Do More

For years, most of us have been taught that if something isn’t working, the answer is to do more.

More:

  • hours
  • discipline
  • sessions
  • intensity

But what if the answer isn’t more?

“What if the answer is more variety – and less of the same?”

My Wake-Up Call

I learned this lesson myself.

As a former professional cyclist and two-time UK age-group triathlon champion, I spent years building a powerful aerobic engine. I could ride for hours, train consistently and perform well. Yet in my early fifties I discovered something that genuinely surprised me.

I couldn’t perform a proper push-up.

Despite decades of training, there was a glaring weakness hiding in plain sight.

I was fit. But I wasn’t as strong, balanced and resilient as I thought.

Years of repeating the same movement patterns had quietly narrowed my body more than I realised.

That moment changed how I viewed fitness.

All-round Strength for Life, Not Just Sport

I stopped asking how I could do more and started asking how I could build better all-round strength.

Not strength for a race. Not strength for a finish line. All-round strength for life.

“Life isn’t lived in one movement pattern.”

Life asks different things of you:

  • A long walk exploring a new city
  • A bike ride with friends
  • A hike in the mountains
  • Swimming with your family
  • Carrying luggage through an airport
  • Gardening all afternoon
  • A spontaneous adventure that wasn’t on the calendar six months ago

The body should be prepared for varied demands.

That’s what all-round strength means to me.

Not becoming exceptional at one thing. Not collecting sports. Not training all hours of the day. Not even triathlons.

Simply building a body that is strong, responsive and energised across the many demands of real life.

Where Sporty Active Women Get Stuck

And this is where I think many active women unknowingly get stuck.

You may be:

  • doing too much of one thing and not enough of another
  • exercising hard but recovering poorly
  • adding more sessions when your body is quietly asking for more recovery
  • chasing fitness while slowly losing the very thing you’re looking for…

Your Feel-Good Factor™.

Because your Feel-Good Factor™ isn’t created by one workout, one training plan or one perfect week.

It’s the outcome of:

  • movement variety
  • all-round strength
  • adequate recovery
  • proper fuelling and nourishment
  • consistency

“When those pieces begin working in harmony again, something shifts.”

Energy comes back and becomes more reliable. Recovery improves. Your body starts responding again.

And little by little, your Feel-Good Factor™ begins to return.

And because those foundations are built consistently over time, the energy, strength and Feel-Good Factor become easier to sustain for years to come.
